Unused Graphics
![]()
Donkey Kong losing a bonus game...
![]()
...and Diddy doing likewise. There are no bonus games in the game, so they both go unused.
![]()
A map icon for Diddy. Even if you complete a world as Diddy, the Donkey Kong icon will display instead.
![]()
Funky Kong's plane, suggesting Funky's Flights was once considered being ported over in development.
![]()
Graphics for a Mini Necky and a coconut.
![]()
A Bitesize swimming upwards.
![]()
Five unused letters for the font on the title screen, possibly for "PUSH" and "OPTIONS". These tiles also appear to be a thinner, earlier version of the font used.
![]()
The word "GAME" meant for the Jungle Book 2 title screen.
![]()
A graphic of Dixie Kong is stored near the password screen graphics. It's likely this would've been used for one of the password icons.
Missing Tiles
| Used | Unused |
|---|---|
The 4 in the title screen has a broken tile in place of an unused one.
Unused Sounds
Using address 0701, you can find several unused sound effects under these values:
01
This was used for the cape spin in Hummer Team's Super Mario World Famicom port.
02
Was not heard in any other Hummer Team game. It resembles the ring sound from the Sonic games.
06
The dragon coin sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
0A
The pipe entrance sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
0B
The power-up spawn sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
0D
The Yoshi sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
12, 13, 14, 15, 16
These sound effects play when you hit multiple enemies with a shell in the Famicom Super Mario World port.
19
The Yoshi tongue sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
1A
The Yoshi swallow sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
1B
The Yoshi fire breath swallow sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
1C
The checkpoint sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
1D
The saw sound effect from the Famicom Super Mario World port.
Unused Music
Using address 0701, you can find several unused tracks as well:
29
An unused rendition of Bonus Room Blitz from the original Donkey Kong Country which was used in another Hummer Team game, The Duck (and its hack The Egg). Seeing as this game has no bonus areas, and the credits just use the Title Screen music, this track is unused. It is also on track 10 in the NSF.
2C, 2F
The castle and ending music from the NES Super Mario World can be found as tracks 13 and 15 in the NSF.
Hidden JY Logo

Press Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Left, Right, Right on the title screen. This version of the JY logo is unique to Donkey Kong Country 4. The only way out of it is to reset the game.
Dip Switches

As with several other pirate games, Donkey Kong Country 4 uses a PCB with a DIP switch on it, which changes some aspects of the game's appearance and gameplay. There are three selections: Donkey Kong Country 4, Jungle Book 2 (where you play as Mowgli from the Jungle Book and you start on the 3rd level), and 2-in-1 Donkey Kong Country 4 + Jungle Book 2, which lets you choose either game.
The DIP switch setting can be changed in FCEUX by resetting the game, although other emulators may handle this differently.
Oddities
Holding A or B on the second controller will cause all sprites on the screen to disappear and they will reappear after letting go of the button. This might've been a leftover debug feature that Hummer Team forgot about.
