Platform: Mega Drive
Year: 1994
Developer: Arc Developments

Hurricanes is based on the 90's TV show aired in Scotland. Unlike the Game Gear version, not only can you choose Cal, but also Rude, Stats, and Amanda as you make your way through 15 levels. These levels include a jungle, an airport, an Aztec temple, a train, a gymnasium, and a haunted house. Your only means of defense is a soccer ball. You can get a temporary upgrade for your soccer ball by kicking it into different colored slots around the level.

Music

Hurricanes' music is a mixed bag. Some of the songs are good and the rest are just annoying since all songs are just constant loops with minor variations thrown in. Most of the songs are lengthy, but that's only because the minor variations being repeated extends its length. There is also an unused song. It sounds like it was intended for the cutscenes since there's no music. It could have also been intended as another stage theme. Andi McGinty (of Johnny Bazookatone fame) wrote MIDI files which were converted to Arc's custom sound engine.

(Source: Musical comparison, verification from staff member; game lacks audio credits.)

The game has credits. Unfortunately, this is one of the many games that leaves out the composer. The game's ripper Doommaster1994 is familiar enough with Andi's musical style to assume him as the composer. However, for better clarification, he also asked one of the game's designers Gary Tonge if Andi worked on the music, and received verification that he composed the music. Also, the Game Gear version shares two songs with this version, and that one credits Andi for the music. According to GDRI's Mega Drive/Genesis Sound Driver List, this game uses a different engine than Mark Cooksey's Genesis driver at Arc Developments. According to Julian Scott, it is possible that Chris Coupe may have provided this game's sound driver. We are currently awaiting verification. Andi and Chris both worked on the Game Gear version's audio, but it has different music and sound.

The game's music was ripped in Fusion364. To log the unused song, a save state had to be hacked.
