Developer: This game has unused text. |
The NES Monopoly is a quality console conversion, even if the AI is still easily exploitable. Coincidentally, it has the same sound engine as Action 52.

Unused Text
YOU'RE NOT IN JAIL.
It's impossible to select "GET OUT OF JAIL" when you are not in jail since the option is not seen when you're out of jail, so this text goes unused.
Regional Differences
Japanese Version
Title Screen
US | Japan |
---|---|
The Monopoly logo is in Japanese, and the TOMY logo is added. The outline on Rich Uncle Pennybags is also fully drawn on JP.
Game Text
In the Japanese version, all text is in Japanese except for the copyright screen. This is rather extensive for a game localization.
Voice Acting
To do: Add the voices from the French and German versions. |
The sampled sound effect for leaving Jail has been changed.
US | Japan |

Version | Quote | Translation |
---|---|---|
English | "Don't be coming back, now." | |
Japanese | "やれやれやっと出られた。" | Whew, I finally got out. |
French | "Et ne revenez pas." | And don't come back. |
German | "Komm nicht zurück." | Do not come back. |

French | "VENDU!" | SOLD! |
German | ? | ? |
Different Cartridge Board
The cartridge board was changed to use CHR-RAM instead of CHR-ROM to accommodate more Japanese characters in the font. During times where graphics are switched in the US version, there is a short delay as it loads the new graphics into CHR-RAM.
Trade Screen Character Portraits
US | Japan |
---|---|
In the Trade screen, the Japanese version adds small animated character portraits. There is a portrait for each of the 8 computer players, as well as Rich Uncle Pennybags for human players. Each portrait has three frames of animation: a neutral face, a happy face, and an angry face.
European Version
Computer Player Names
The European French and German versions change the names of most (if not all) the computer players.
