Crash: Mind Over Mutant is the sequel to Crash of the Titans, with open-world environments.

This game, like its predecessor and Crash Tag Team Racing, was based on The Simpsons: Hit & Run's engine, so the tools to mod that game work with this game.

Hmmm...

To do:

  • There's thousands of voicelines and a bunch of them go unused. Document them somehow.

  • Get the unused levels playable.

Unused Music

The DEFAULT.RCF cement file contains four themes which go unused, and which are also present in the game's predecessor with the same filenames.

crash_test_track01

A 30-second theme with very whimsical and Crash-esque instruments. The name indicates it was a testing placeholder of some sort, and it may be a leftover from another of Radical's games.

crash_test_track02

Very similar to the above track, with more simple and catchy instruments. As the name states, it's another temporary theme.

crash_test_track03

A shorter jingle with funky, disco-themed instruments. You know where this is going.

tempmusic1

Different from the three themes documented above in that it's not merely twice as long and located in a different file directory (crash_temp_sounds, as opposed to sounds), but anybody familiar with the series will notice it's a jungle-themed remix of the traditional Crash Bandicoot theme, synonymous with the series since it was first used in Warped!

Unfortunately, the filename makes it clear that it was never intended to be anything more than a placeholder theme, rendering this iconic piece of Bandicoot paraphernalia unused in this game.

Unused NPC

Villagers:RipperRoo
obj:RipperRoo
L1_R1RipperRoo1
L3_R5_RipperRooLocator1

Coding for an unused Ripper Roo villager exists in the game's files. He was going to appear near the start of the game in Wumpa Village and in the Ice Prison Uka Bone area.

Unused Text

Some "InGame" text packages contain strings unused in the game:

Crash defeated 5 Ratcicles
Crash defeated 5 Magmadons
Crash defeated 5 TKs
Crash defeated 5 RhinoRollers
Crash defeated 5 Spikes
Crash defeated 5 Snipes
Crash defeated 5 Sludges

Stun 5 Spikes as Crash

The game only tracks the "5 Ratcicles/Spikes/Sludges" missions.

The missions only track and require defeating 75 of each minion.

This should not be used!

Mutant in Your Pocket

The actual mission name is "Mutant Recycle".

Up Your Gorilla
Blown Away
Yucky Ducky

Unused Maxed mutant mission names for Scorporilla, Battler and Yuktopus, respectively.

Find N.Gin! He's somewhere on Wumpa Island. He seems to be hanging out with Chirattas.

Mission 2's description in the game mentions Ratnicians instead of Chirattas.

Free Ratcicle Hero
Free Sludge Hero
Find and free the Ratcicle Hero

Unused mission names and descriptions for the Hero rescues.

Some kind of dialogue placeholders also exist. Their text is written in all-caps, while most other text is case-sensitive:
