So very stubbly.

This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

While Dragon Quest III was indeed localized for the NES and Game Boy Color, the superior Super Famicom version never had such luck. Taking a page from Nintendo's laziness of slapping Super Mario All-Stars on a Wii disc, the first three Dragon Quest games were released as a bare-bones Wii collection containing their NES and SNES versions.

Debug Menu

Hmmm...

To do:
Find a new YouTube video, or just a screenshot.

Use Game Genie codes EEEE-E765 EEEE-E7A5 6DEE-E4B8 with the regular Super Famicom release (and its fan-translation) to trigger a Debug Menu by pressing L:

It has many pages, which can be brought up by pressing Left and Right. You can use this menu to modify your stats, level, money, and character, but the job class option doesn't work. The Return option in the beginning is a warping option taking you anywhere, including a Test area. You can open functional menus which normally appear at set locations (like churches and taverns).

There is a Walk Through Walls option for the overworld (which can glitch up battles), aside from a Monster Viewer.

Test Monsters

Various test monsters remain in the game's code. All except Ortega appear as Slimes (probably the default value).

  • Monster 137: Ortega

230 attack, 220 defense, 100 agility, 27 MP, 400 HP, 0 gold, 0 XP. Casts Sleep, HealAll, and Infermost.

Sprite is the same as Kandar, with a somewhat different palette. This sprite differs from the one used when Ortega actually appears in-game.

  • Monster 141: "Keikenchi" ("Experience")

Provided capped experience. Used for testing leveling.

  • Monster 142: "Okane" ("Money")

Provides 1023 gold.

  • Monster 143: "Sentaku baka"

  • Monster 143: "Sentaku ningen"

  • Monster 145: "Sentaku kami"

  • Monster 146: "Sentaku 0"

  • Monster 147: "Sentaku 1"

  • Monster 148: "Sentaku 2"

  • Monster 149: "Sentaku 3"

These "Sentaku" monsters have infinite HP and all of the same stats. You can set what they do. Used to test various monster commands.

Dummied Items

  • Iron Abacus (Attack Power +20, sell for 472): Was likely cut because there's plenty of weapons already of a similar power in the game.

  • Crystal Ball (sell for 0): Has no effect in battle or on the map.

  • Death Organ (sell for 0): Kills your entire party in battle, then causes all monsters to run away.

  • Water Pistol: Does nothing. This was a gag item in the NES version, and somehow didn't make it into this one.
